History of Cottage no 1

Areena Riverside Resort, started as a caravan park in the early 1980’s along the Kwelera River, with only 30 sites, then gradually increased to 70 sites. As the resort developed, it was decided that self-catering accommodation was needed and planning began. The first unit was the water reservoir converted into a thatched rondavel. A charming 4 sleeper unit self-catering unit. It is still a popular rondavel with our guests looking for an affordable family holiday.
We have some interesting history to share on Cottage no 1, which was the second self-catering unit at Areena Riverside Resort. This cottage was developed and built in 1993.
The roof trusses of the cottage no 1 where bought on auction, and were originally those of the old Gonubie Police Station. The Gonubie Police station incidentally is our closest police station. Cottage no 1 is a quaint family unit with two bedrooms, perfect for a family of four persons. The main bedroom is spacious and has a queen bed, the second bedroom has a bunk bed for children. There is an open plan kitchen and lounge area with a leather couch and original art work from local artist, Paul Schmidt. Large sliding doors lead from the lounge onto a patio with a braai stand.
