History of Rondavel 1

Our popular Thatched Rondavel no 1 has an interesting history that you may not know. It started out as a farm reservoir supplying the only ablution block in the caravan park for the first four years or so. This was when Areena Riverside Resort was only a caravan park.
When the water supply was changed to a gravity feed system from the top dam, the reservoir was no longer needed. The reservoir sat for a while as a non-functional entity. When Areena Riverside Resort Caravan Park had managed to save a bit of money, it was decided to upgrade the humble reservoir into an accommodation unit.
The reservoir had a side extension added to accommodate a kitchen and bathroom. A wooden loft area was installed as a space for two single beds. The sliding doors and windows were purchased at local auctions and a thatched roof finished it off.
A permanent resident called the rondavel home for a while, before it became part of the resort short term holiday rentals as it is currently.
The lovely family rondavel sleeps a family of 4 persons, with an open plan lounge bedroom with a beautiful canopied double bed and kitchen and bathroom with a large shower, off to the side. The upstairs loft has 2 single beds, and the kids love the ‘treehouse’ feel of being in the loft space. The patio area has a braai stand, outdoor furniture and umbrella to enjoy those afternoon braai sessions with the family.
